Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
I’m originally from Houston, Tx but now reside in Dallas. Ever since I was a little kid I knew I wanted to be an entertainer and singer. I started out singing and leading solos in the church choir, then from there I took it further by participating in numerous talent shows, competitions, and showcases throughout the state. Around the age of 18, I decided to take my music further and form an R&B group (formerly known as XQUIZITE). Being the lead singer in the group and traveling doing shows across the states really put my face in the mainstream of upcoming singers; opening for such major artists as Ginuwine, Bobby Valentino, and Urban Mystic. Around winter of 2008, we as a group split up even while having a Sony/BMG music deal on the table for us. I had to think about the future, the group was going through many internal issues and I knew in the long run the split up would be for the best. Ever since the split I have been pursuing my own solo career, dropping hit after hit across the web and airwaves, as well as street mixtapes and my latest Extended Play album “The Anticipation Of Derrick J” (available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc.).

What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
Expect to see the unexpected from me. With the EP album still booming in sales across the net, be on the lookout for the newest mixtape “LOVE SESSION 101″ hosted by Trina’s official dj (DJ Daisy Dukes) dropping for free download on my official website. Expect to see more of me doing shows across the south region and the DMV area this year for 2011. My single “Full Time” is now on the airwaves in Tx, be expecting new single releases as well and exclusive music videos. Also, I just currently teamed up with super-producer S1 (producer of Kanye West song “Power”) on some major writing placements for industry artists.
